I always thought that I knew how to get a girlfriend, but that I did not have the things that it took. You see, I am not especially good looking or rich–the two things that I thought for sure would get me a girlfriend. However, I learned that I was falling prey to some bad myths about getting girls. An Old Friend Sets Me Straight
A few years ago, I ran into an old high school friend, Jack. Like me, he was not the jock type that always had the girls hanging off of him. Still, I found out that he had been happily married for five years and that they had two beautiful kids. He showed me pictures and his wife was really pretty. I could not believe it. Myth #1–Girls Only Want Good Looking Guys
Everyone wants someone that they find attractive, but the truth is that girls are not very particular when it comes to looks. They care more about other things, such as a sense of humor, kindness and sensitivity. The more she gets to know a man and sees his other great qualities, the more attractive he becomes to her.
Myth #2–Girls Only Want a Good Conversationalist
It’s easy to think that girls want someone that will dazzle them with wit. It seems like other guys have this trait when they can walk up to any girl in the bar and start talking to her. These guys just have confidence, not good conversational skills.
You definitely need to be able to hold your own in a conversation, but do not mistake this with needing to be a great conversationalist. Listen to the things that she is saying and respond in kind. Remember to always be true to yourself. Do not try to fake something just to get a girl.
Myth #3–Girls Only Want Rich Guys
This is one of the biggest myths out there. You do not need to be a CEO or a millionaire in order to get a woman, but you also will have a hard time if you do not have any job and still live with your parents. Girls want a guy that has some meaning to his life. If you love cars and working on them, be a mechanic. If you like working with kids, be a teacher. It is better to have a job that you love doing with a smaller salary than a job that you hate doing with a large salary. That type of stress will seep into your relationship and ruin it.
Of course, there are many more myths than just these three, and Jack showed me the article that changed his mind and his life. Once I learned from Jack that these things were just myths, it really changed my life and improved my confidence. I no longer felt that I was not the type of guy that women did not want and this allowed me to meet and date a variety of women. I finally did find the one. We have been together for two years and are about to get married next spring.
